About the unit
EURECOM, Inria and IMT join complementary strengths in machine learning, health and intelligent systems on the Côte d’Azur.
A shared scientific ambition
ELLIS Côte d’Azur aims to strengthen European research in robust, frugal and embedded artificial intelligence. Located in Sophia Antipolis, the unit connects fundamental advances with applications in health, digital infrastructure, creative industries and intelligent mobility.
Partner institutions
EURECOM contributes expertise in statistical learning, generative AI, AI for health, knowledge engineering and neuro-symbolic systems. The Inria Centre at Université Côte d’Azur brings complementary strengths in computer vision, machine learning and federated learning. Institut Mines-Télécom (IMT), represented through its membership in EURECOM, connects this collaboration with a wider national research and innovation network.
Three connected research pillars
AI Foundations develops methods for machine learning, generative modeling and computer vision. AI for Health connects methodological research with clinical questions. Systems and Knowledge Management for AI studies efficient, scalable and explainable infrastructures, federated learning, and knowledge representation and reasoning.
Rooted in the Côte d’Azur
The unit builds on the long-standing collaboration between EURECOM and Inria within 3IA Côte d’Azur. This regional ecosystem connects research, doctoral training and industry, providing a setting for open scientific exchange and the transfer of research into practice.
Scientific leadership and coordination
Pietro Michiardi (EURECOM) is designated director of the unit. EURECOM supports administrative coordination and communication, with Simone Rossi contributing to administrative coordination and Lise Cudin to communication.
A European research community
The unit aims to strengthen links with the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems through joint research, researcher visits, doctoral mobility, workshops and summer schools. Existing collaborations across the ELLIS network and the joint doctoral program between EURECOM and Politecnico di Torino provide a foundation for this exchange.
